Other People's Shoes launched on January 29, 2019, with a simple idea:
Every person has a story that cannot be understood from the outside.
What began as a weekly conversation became a growing archive of different lives, beliefs, losses, victories, questions, detours, and perspectives.
THE FORMAT EVOLVED.
THE SEASONS CHANGED.
THE VOICES MULTIPLIED.
The invitation remained the same: listen before assuming.
Hundreds of conversations later, the lesson has not changed: people are always more complicated than the version visible from the outside.

The Apollo missions changed our perspective sometimes literally.
When the world watched Neil Armstrong step onto the Moon.
We saw Earth differently, saw what humanity could accomplish differently.
Of course, depending on who gets asked, maybe none of it happened.
What if empathy has its own conspiracy theory?
Does it still exist? Or has the world simply gotten better at talking about empathy while becoming worse at practicing it?
That question lives at the center of Other People's Shoes.
Every episode creates room to move beyond what can be seen, listen before reaching a verdict, and become curious about the life another person has actually lived.

That line from The Shawshank Redemption has followed the show because shoes are one of the easiest things to notice about another person.
Shoes are visible.
The miles inside them are not.
A worn sole cannot explain where someone has been.
A clean pair cannot reveal what someone is carrying.
Style cannot tell the story of grief, faith, failure, courage, recovery, fear, joy, or survival.
The shoes are a reminder that every person is carrying more history than can be seen from the outside.

BEFORE THE WALK.
Every footprint begins with a decision to leave familiar ground.
For years, I've said that when you walk in other people's shoes, you really do get a different perspective on life.
Here's the irony: I've never been comfortable with bare feet. I've never even wanted them associated with the show.
You can't put on another person's shoes without taking yours off first.
Maybe that's exactly the point. Empathy isn't always comfortable. It asks us to step outside our assumptions and make room for a life we haven't lived.
In John 13, Jesus knelt to wash His disciples' feet. Peter initially resisted. It was a moment of humility, vulnerability, and love — even when it felt uncomfortable.

Carolina roots. An open sky. The possibility of a perspective we haven't reached yet.
THE ORBIT
Change where you stand, and you may discover an entirely different view.

A point of direction and hope — and, for me, an echo of the cross and the faith guiding this mission.

Other People's Shoes became what it is today.

On January 29, 2019,
Other People's Shoes launched.
The mission was simple: hear people's stories, ask better questions, listen closely, and try to understand something that could not be seen from the outside.
THE SHOW FOUND ITS VOICE.
One episode became another.
New guests arrived. New perspectives challenged old assumptions.
The range of stories widened and the questions became more intentional.
The show began discovering its rhythm: stay curious, listen longer, and let the person be bigger than the label.
THE SHOE SHACK.
The conversations eventually found a home base in the Shoe Shack.
Seasons developed their own themes, questions, artwork, and new territory.
The room became familiar.
The stories never did.
Every guest brought another road into the room.
400+ STORIES.
In 2026, Other People's Shoes crossed its 400th episode.
Not 400 people who agreed with each other.
Not 400 perfect stories.
More than 400 opportunities to sit with another human story and see life from somewhere else.
THE WALK CONTINUES.
The conversations continue every week.
The show keeps changing because people keep changing.
The objective remains the same.

Other People's Shoes has never been a one-person mission.
Elizabeth was there at ignition, encouraging an idea to become a real show.
Garrett helped shape the early missions and the rhythm of the conversations while the show was still discovering what it could become.
Then came the guests.
Hundreds of people willing to trust the show with stories that were painful, funny, complicated, hopeful, uncomfortable, surprising, and deeply human.
And then there are the listeners the people who kept showing up.
